You can get a Pro license on a yearly or monthly basis, or buy the whole thing at once. They have a free license edition that does everything the Pro version does, except with fewer file formats available for export. What might contain large media files and does contain internal proxies is the internal media space (aka media locations) and this space can be configured, as shown above, with any version of Lightworks. Lightworks is excellent for professional usage, but it’s also very beginner-friendly. Usually, I've linked the Lightworks folder to an M2 SSD different from my system drive, because the autosave process needs fast access to not impact performance negatively and, the project folder is small, because it doesn't contain any media. I have a Pro version, but use hardlinks for the Lightworks user folder nevertheless, not because of folder size, but because of flexibility. Even with the Free version, you can place the Projects folder or the whole Lightworks user folder, if necessary, wherever you want on your local file system with hardlinks (aka junctions on Windows) on OS level. If you have activated your perpetual license, your project menu should include a locations tab for specifying autosave and timeline rendering media locations.
